Sporting Equals is committed to increasing the numbers of black and minority ethnic volunteers and coaches in sport. This is an essential part of our overall aim to broaden the involvement of all sectors of the community in sport and a healthy lifestyle. You don’t have to play a sport to be involved in sport. Loyal volunteers are the mainstay of most sports clubs, and volunteering is often the first step on the way to training as a coach or manager.
Latest Opportunities for BME Coaches
FA's COACH bursary programme
The representation of BME coaches in the coaching workforce is significantly low. SportsCoach UK figures in 2009 highlighted that only 1% of all qualified coaches came from BME communities. Sporting Equals work to increase ethnic diversity across sport and physical activity and we welcome and support the FA's COACH bursary programme that aims to address under-representation at higher levels of the coaching profession.
It is aimed at BME coaches aspiring to qualifications to achieve greater opportunities. It provides support to undertake coaching qualifications, gain coaching experience, with opportunities to observe top coaches and benefit from mentoring.

For other opportunities
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer steward or coach, or if you already have a coaching qualification that you are no longer using, we’d like to hear from you. We may be able to put you in touch with a local club who would appreciate your time and skills, and can signpost you to further training and volunteering opportunities.
