Fit as a Fiddle

Funded by the National Lottery, the Age UK Fit as a Fiddle programme offers a catalyst to empower older people to live healthier, more active and fulfilling lives with the support of their peers and communities.

Sporting Equals is one of five National Partner’s to Age UK and is the delivery organisation for the Faith and Community Strand of the Fit as a Fiddle Cascade Training Programme.

This programme will involve building the capacity of organisations to support older people in community and faith based settings, ensure agencies are responsive to cultural and religious sensitivities while maintaining a focus on physical activity, nutrition and overall wellbeing.

The project will involve a funded training programme delivered by Sporting Equals to community based organisations and volunteers to enable them to work with older people from black and minority ethnic and faith groups. The training will equip volunteers with the skills to encourage and motivate an older person to live more physically active lives. The initial pilot took place in July 2010, with a national rollout happening FROM October 1st.

If you are an organisation interested in getting BME older people more physically active or want to take part in the project as a volunteer please contact Shaheen BI National Project Manager, On 0121 777 1375 or email shbi@sportingequals.org.uk
