On 26 April 2026, Harmander Singh completed an extraordinary milestone: his 42nd consecutive London Marathon and his 202nd marathon overall. For most runners, one London Marathon is a lifetime achievement. For Harmander, it became another chapter in a remarkable journey defined not just by endurance, but by devotion, friendship and purpose.
But this year’s marathon was about far more than crossing the finish line.
For 25 years, Harmander stood beside the legendary Fauja Singh BEM — the man who famously began marathon running at the age of 89 and inspired millions around the world with his determination, humility and joy for life. From Fauja’s very first training session to his final marathon at 101, Harmander was there every step of the way as coach, supporter and close friend.
This year, Harmander ran the 2026 London Marathon in Fauja Singh’s memory.
His marathon effort helped raise funds for the Sikhs In The City Fauja Singh Clubhouse in East London — a permanent community space planned for the very routes where Fauja once trained with fellow runners. The clubhouse will become a centre for health, wellbeing, friendship and community spirit, ensuring that Fauja’s inspiring legacy continues for generations to come.
This appeal was never simply about constructing a building. It was about preserving the values that Fauja embodied throughout his life: resilience, positivity, inclusion and the belief that it is never too late to begin something extraordinary.
Harmander set a deeply personal fundraising target of £9,009, representing the number of days he knew Fauja Singh until his passing at the age of 114. In another touching tribute, anyone donating more than £114 will receive a commemorative nameplate within the clubhouse.
