Introduction

Sporting Equals is a leading charity in the UK promoting race equality and equity in sport and physical activity. Our mission is to create a sporting landscape where ethnically diverse communities feel included, represented, and able to thrive – whether on the pitch, in leadership, or in decision-making spaces.
 
We work with national governing bodies, system partners, and community organisations to tackle inequalities, influence policy, and drive systemic change. Through research, advocacy, and community  programmes we empower organisations to move beyond representation towards genuine inclusion and cultural change.
Together, we are shaping a future where sport and physical activity truly belongs to everyone.

We have three primary aims

1.

To raise awareness and understanding of the needs of Ethnically Diverse Communities within the sports and health sector, in order to change attitudes and increase participation in sport and physical activity.

2.

To empower individuals and communities to play a part in this change, and achieve their full potential through playing sport and being active.

3.

To advise and support policy-makers and delivery bodies to be inclusive of all under-represented groups, drawing on our experience with Ethnically Diverse Communities.

Sporting Equals Values

Sporting Equals celebrates five values in our team and in our culture. These run through the DNA of our work. These values are:

Sporting Equals is committed to high standards of governance and we’re proud to have achieved compliance against Tier 3 of the Code for Sports Governance (with confirmation of compliance received from Sport England during August 2018). Work to maintain compliance is ongoing as part of our good governance.

Registered Charity

Sporting Equals is registered as a charity in England and Wales (1119365) and is registered with Companies House as a Private Limited Company by guarantee (05853520). We’re governed by the rules and regulations within our Memorandum and Articles of Association.

We believe in inclusion by supporting and empowering our staff. Our Diversity Action Plan sets out how we will take this further and direct our focus into growing and engaging wider communities through inclusion and equality of opportunities.

Board of Trustees

Sporting Equals is governed by a Board of Trustees who collectively govern and take decisions to ensure the charity fulfils its purpose and remains sustainable. As Sporting Equals is both a charity and company, Sporting Equals’ Trustees are also company Directors (Non-Executive Directors) and therefore beholden to both charity and company law.

Sporting Equals’ Board of Trustees currently includes the Chair, Senior Independent Director and four other Trustees. Sporting Equals’ Trustees are volunteers who bring valued experience to Sporting Equals from a range of backgrounds. Please see ‘Our Team‘ to find out more about our Trustees.

Sporting Equals’ Board of Trustees has three sub-committees where Trustees with specific skills and experience can focus on priority governance areas in more detail (Finance Committee, Audit Committee, HR & Remunerations Committee) and, in addition, Nominations Committee is dealt with by the Full Board.
