Scotland
Research

sportscotland commissioned Sporting Equals to undertake consultation with community groups and individuals from ethnically diverse communities to explore their experiences of engaging with sport and physical activity and the structures that support sports and physical activity participation within Scotland. This research was part of a wider equalities review carried out by sportscotland.

The findings from the consultation are divided into the following themes:

  • Reasons for and barriers to participation;
  • Relationship Building, Bureaucracy and Communication;
  • Pathways to success;
  • Wider attitudes towards EDI as practice (core understandings of diversity).

These topics emerged as key aspects from focus groups, one-to-one interviews and meetings which took place with individuals from various ethnic backgrounds and a variety of organisations that engage with ethnically diverse communities through sport.
