Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges
One of the standout initiatives that showcases GB Taekwondo’s dedication to inclusion is their Breaking Down Barriers project. This groundbreaking program included hosting an Iftar, with CEO Paul Buxton in attendance, to support and celebrate the Muslim community within the sport.
This event was particularly significant as it marked the first time an Olympic/Paralympic sport hosted an Iftar. It was not just a moment to honor the cultural and religious practices of Muslim athletes but also an opportunity to foster understanding and solidarity. GB Taekwondo used this platform to learn about the challenges Muslim athletes face during fasting periods and brought teammates and colleagues together to celebrate this shared experience.
