Supporting Humanity Wins BBC Radio London Award for Outstanding Community Impact

We are proud to celebrate Supporting Humanity, a valued associate member of Sporting Equals, for winning a BBC Radio London Award in recognition of their exceptional work supporting mental health, wellbeing, and bereavement care across communities.

The award honours Founder Idris Patel, who was nominated for leading a remarkable one-day fundraising event that raised over £214,000 for humanitarian relief efforts in Sudan and Palestine.

Reflecting on the recognition, Idris shared a powerful message that continues to inspire the organisation’s ethos:

“My mum always says this one thing and I’ve lived by this motto: It’s not what the world can do for you but it’s what you can do for the world.”

This philosophy underpins Supporting Humanity’s mission — to provide compassionate support and hope to those in need, regardless of background or circumstance.

In addition to their community and international work, Supporting Humanity are set to be involved in two key Sporting Equals initiatives:

  • MenoFit, a groundbreaking project supporting women’s health and wellbeing through sport and physical activity.
  • The City Bridge Foundation partnership, focused on empowering diverse communities to engage with health and wellbeing programmes across London.

These collaborations reflect a shared commitment between Supporting Humanity and Sporting Equals to break down barriers, promote inclusion, and champion holistic wellbeing across all communities.

The BBC Radio London Award is a testament not only to Idris Patel’s leadership but also to the dedication of every volunteer, partner, and supporter who makes the charity’s work possible.

From mental health advocacy to global humanitarian efforts and inclusive wellbeing initiatives, Supporting Humanity continues to embody the spirit of service and solidarity — values deeply aligned with the mission of Sporting Equals.

Congratulations once again to Idris Patel and the entire Supporting Humanity team on this well-deserved recognition.
