Sporting Equals LeaderBoard Alumni Kajol Speaks at the House of Lords

Sporting Equals is proud to celebrate Kajol, a LeaderBoard Alumni, who recently took to the stage at the House of Lords as a panellist at the Breaking Through the Barriers event, sharing her story alongside a group of inspiring women leaders.

Speaking about the experience, Kajol reflected on the significance of the moment and the journey that led her there.

“As I walked up, I found myself reflecting on the walks to school in Kettering when places and opportunities like this weren’t even things I knew about, let alone something I could dream of.”

The event brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds to discuss the barriers they have faced, overcome and continue to navigate throughout their personal and professional journeys. For Kajol, it was an opportunity to speak openly and authentically about the realities behind success, including the less polished moments that often go unseen.

“There was definitely a slight vulnerability hangover from sharing parts of the journey, but spaces like these are so important to share the less polished parts, the things we all have to navigate, overcome and learn from along the way.”

What made the occasion particularly meaningful was the full-circle nature of Kajol’s leadership journey. Before becoming a LeaderBoard participant, she was involved with BASPA through NHSF UK, where she first learned about Sporting Equals’ flagship leadership programme. Having later joined LeaderBoard herself, the opportunity to speak at such a prestigious event provided a moment to reflect on how far she had come.

Kajol credits the programme with creating valuable opportunities for learning, growth and self-development, while also broadening her understanding of leadership pathways and governance.

“It was really a full-circle moment to have the opportunity to be on the programme, learning and growing. It has been great to understand more from people about the variety of experiences and opportunities of Board roles, which I hope one day in the future I’ll be able to apply and put into action.”

Her reflections resonate strongly with the mission of Sporting Equals and the LeaderBoard programme, which exists to support diverse talent, challenge inequalities and empower future leaders to fulfil their potential.

Kajol also used the opportunity to acknowledge the people who have supported her throughout her journey, from mentors and champions in her professional life to those who made a lasting impact during her formative years.

“Immense gratitude as I reflect on the path up to this point, for all the people who have championed me, challenged me, opened doors and poured into me at different points throughout my journey.”

In particular, she highlighted the important role teachers and early role models played in shaping her confidence, ambition and belief in what was possible.

“One which I don’t often reflect on these days is those at the very early stages, particularly the school teachers, who became role models, took the time to support little me and shape so much of who I am today.”

The event also provided an opportunity to learn from and be inspired by fellow panellists who have each forged their own paths while breaking barriers in their respective fields.

Kajol expressed her gratitude to Manpreet Maycock, Baroness Arlene Foster and Manjinder Nagra for helping create the opportunity and bringing together such a powerful and inspiring discussion.

As a member of the Sporting Equals LeaderBoard community, Kajol continues to demonstrate the impact of authentic leadership, resilience and representation. Her appearance at the House of Lords serves as a reminder of the importance of creating spaces where diverse voices are heard, valued and empowered to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Her story is also a testament to the power of investing in leadership development, creating opportunities, and supporting individuals to see pathways that may once have felt out of reach. From discovering LeaderBoard through BASPA and NHSF UK to speaking on a panel at the House of Lords, Kajol’s journey showcases what can happen when talent is nurtured, doors are opened, and people are encouraged to lead with authenticity.

We congratulate Kajol on this significant achievement and look forward to seeing her continued growth and impact as a future leader, including, perhaps one day, bringing her experiences and insights to a Board role of her own.
